R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Residents of Brazoria County lost a dedicated
  citizen and a cherished friend with the passing of Barbara Gene Ross
  of Angleton on February 10, 2008, at the age of 70; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Alvin to William and Bertha Mienke on
  September 12, 1937, Barbara Gene Ross grew up on a farm; she went on
  to marry Gardner Ross, with whom she nurtured a fulfilling
  relationship and raised a family; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross loved gardening and was knowledgeable
  about nearly every local plant species; she served as the president
  of the Brazoria County Master Gardeners Association and led the
  group's public endeavors, turning an old property into a showcase
  for gardens and planting vineyards and orchards; the stunning
  blooms that surrounded her home earned her numerous beautification
  awards, and her work remains visible today at the county
  fairgrounds, the extension center grounds, and the homes of the
  many gardeners she mentored and encouraged; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross was also active in the Republican party as
  a precinct chair, election judge, and board member for the
  Tri-County Republican Women, and she inspired others to become
  similarly involved in politics; she was known for expressing her
  opinions and taking charge, and she was always willing to assist the
  organization in any way she could; she supported Republican
  candidates, volunteered her time during elections, ran area
  headquarter sites, and even helped another party by filling in for
  their election judge who became ill at the polling place; with
  determination, strength, and a firm belief in the political
  process, she made lasting contributions to the Republican party in
  Brazoria County; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan enhanced the lives of many with
  her kindness, generosity, and delightfully wicked sense of humor,
  and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who
  were privileged to share in her love and friendship; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Gene Ross
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  sons, Charles Ross and his wife, Cynthia, and Michael G. Ross and
  his wife, Theresa; to her grandchildren, Zachary, Gabriella, Jade,
  Michael, and Sandy Ross, Amy Brunson, and Brandi Hasting; to her
  sister, Penny Anderson, and her husband, Ronel; and to her other
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barbara
  Gene Ross.
