R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Colonel Lamar Beckworth of Austin has been named
  interim director of the Texas Department of Public Safety; and
         WHEREAS, Excelling throughout his notable 31-year tenure
  with the agency, Colonel Beckworth first joined DPS as a trooper in
  Irving, where he administered driver's license examinations; he
  went on to serve as a highway patrol trooper in Kilgore before being
  promoted to the rank of highway patrol sergeant in Brownfield; and
         WHEREAS, Following two years as a highway patrol lieutenant
  in Garland, he earned the position of major in 1993, and served as
  regional commander in Lubbock for nearly a decade; recognized for
  his commitment and professionalism, he was promoted to assistant
  chief in 2002, and six years later he was named lieutenant colonel
  and interim assistant director of DPS; and
         WHEREAS, Colonel Beckworth brings a wealth of experience,
  knowledge, and dedication to the office of interim director; over
  the course of his outstanding career, he has exemplified the
  highest ideals of the law enforcement profession and contributed
  immeasurably to the safety of his fellow Texans, and it is a
  pleasure to recognize him for his latest achievement; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Lamar Beckworth on his
  appointment as interim director of the Texas Department of Public
  Safety and commend him for his decades of service in behalf of
  citizens of the Lone Star State; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Colonel Beckworth as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
