R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Professor Diane Hays and architecture students from
  The University of Texas at San Antonio have made a positive
  difference in their community through their efforts at Raymond
  Russell County Park; and
         WHEREAS, Gaining real-world experience while improving this
  northside facility, the class worked with Bexar County and Jamail &
  Smith Construction to renovate a cabin, known as "The Schoolhouse,"
  and to create a nature trail; over a two-year period, students
  seeded the area with prairie grass, graveled a path, and
  constructed wooden observation decks, which Professor Hays hopes
  will be used as outdoor classrooms; and
         WHEREAS, This worthwhile initiative has taught more than 60
  students lessons in design and budgeting, in addition to providing
  them with hands-on building experience; as a result, these young
  Texans will enter the job market with excellent skills learned both
  in and outside the classroom; and
         WHEREAS, The students' work has not only enhanced the park's
  appearance, it has provided easier access for visitors, enabled
  better vantage points to view the area's natural beauty, and helped
  safeguard the park against soil erosion due to flooding; and
         WHEREAS, Diane Hays has developed an innovative and
  purposeful approach to training future Texas architects, and this
  noteworthy undertaking will be of lasting benefit to project
  participants as well as area residents; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Professor Diane Hays and her students
  from The University of Texas at San Antonio for their contributions
  to Raymond Russell County Park and extend to them sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the class as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
