R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant Reuben |
|
|
Marcus Fernandez III of Abilene suffered an immeasurable loss with |
|
|
the death of this valiant soldier on October 11, 2008, at the age of |
|
|
22; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, |
|
|
4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, based out of Fort |
|
|
Hood, Sergeant Fernandez lost his life while bravely serving his |
|
|
country on his second tour of duty in Iraq; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Aurora Flores Fernandez and the late |
|
|
Reuben M. Fernandez, Jr., Marcus Fernandez graduated from Cooper |
|
|
High School in 2004 and joined the Army soon after; he planned to |
|
|
dedicate his life to the military and was highly decorated |
|
|
throughout his career, earning the Army Commendation Medal, Army |
|
|
Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense |
|
|
Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism |
|
|
Service Medal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Responsible, respectful, and strong-willed, |
|
|
Sergeant Fernandez also had a lighthearted side and he was known for |
|
|
his infectious laughter and expressive eyes; he always kept in |
|
|
close contact with his family and friends, and he won the affection |
|
|
of all who knew him; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
|
|
servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous |
|
|
sacrifices are deserving of the deepest respect and gratitude; |
|
|
through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, Marcus |
|
|
Fernandez embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed |
|
|
forces, and those who knew him will forever hold his memory close in |
|
|
their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant |
|
|
Reuben Marcus Fernandez III and extend sincere sympathy to his |
|
|
mother, Aurora Flores Fernandez, to his sister, Stephanie, and to |
|
|
all those who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Marcus |
|
|
Fernandez. |
