R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant Reuben
  Marcus Fernandez III of Abilene suffered an immeasurable loss with
  the death of this valiant soldier on October 11, 2008, at the age of
  22; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment,
  4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, based out of Fort
  Hood, Sergeant Fernandez lost his life while bravely serving his
  country on his second tour of duty in Iraq; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Aurora Flores Fernandez and the late
  Reuben M. Fernandez, Jr., Marcus Fernandez graduated from Cooper
  High School in 2004 and joined the Army soon after; he planned to
  dedicate his life to the military and was highly decorated
  throughout his career, earning the Army Commendation Medal, Army
  Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense
  Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism
  Service Medal; and
         WHEREAS, Responsible, respectful, and strong-willed,
  Sergeant Fernandez also had a lighthearted side and he was known for
  his infectious laughter and expressive eyes; he always kept in
  close contact with his family and friends, and he won the affection
  of all who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
  servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous
  sacrifices are deserving of the deepest respect and gratitude;
  through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, Marcus
  Fernandez embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed
  forces, and those who knew him will forever hold his memory close in
  their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant
  Reuben Marcus Fernandez III and extend sincere sympathy to his
  mother, Aurora Flores Fernandez, to his sister, Stephanie, and to
  all those who mourn his passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Marcus
  Fernandez.
