R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For nearly half a century, Georgia Provost has
  greatly contributed to the field of education in the Houston area;
  and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Southern University with a
  bachelor's degree in photography, Mrs. Provost has had a long and
  impressive career as a professor of photography at TSU and as a
  professional photographer with Provost and Associates; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Provost has been a longtime advocate of
  educational opportunities for African American youth, working with
  The Metropolitan Organization and the Youth for Christ Foundation;
  she has also worked with students at Jack Yates High School; and
         WHEREAS, A member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church,
  Mrs. Provost has served as executive director of the T. F. Freeman
  Ministers Laity Summit and as a founding member of the
  Helfman/Provost fund-raising team; and
         WHEREAS, In 2009, Mrs. Provost is celebrating her 50th year
  of association with TSU, as a student, professor, executive
  director of the TSU Bayou Bend Alumni and Ex-Student Association,
  and self-appointed ambassador; and
         WHEREAS, Married for 38 years to TSU tennis coach Herbert
  Provost, Mrs. Provost has been blessed with two sons who have
  followed in her footsteps; Jerome Provost is chief photographer at
  Provost and Associates, and Ray Carrington III teaches photography
  at Jack Yates High; and
         WHEREAS, Georgia Provost has distinguished herself as a
  photographer, an educator, and a leading member of her community,
  and this outstanding Texan may indeed take pride in her many
  achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Georgia Provost for her long record of
  service to her community and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Provost as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
