R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Howard E. Jefferson of Houston has distinguished
  himself through his efforts to better the city and state he calls
  home; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Mississippi, Mr. Jefferson holds a
  bachelor's degree in chemistry from Southern University in
  Louisiana and a master's degree in education administration from
  the University of Houston; he also studied for a year at The
  University of Texas at Austin, where he was awarded a science and
  mathematics fellowship; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jefferson served nearly three decades as an
  assistant superintendent of the Houston Independent School
  District before going into business for himself as owner and chair
  of Protectors Insurance and Financial Services; in addition, he
  served as campaign manager for U.S. Congressman Al Green; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to social justice, Mr. Jefferson has
  advocated for disenfranchised individuals and worked to increase
  opportunities for African American-owned businesses in Texas; he is
  the former president of the NAACP Houston Branch and currently
  serves as chair of the NAACP political action committee; moreover,
  Governor Rick Perry appointed him to the select committee for
  recommendations to Texas Southern University; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jefferson is supported in his endeavors by his
  wife, Zona G. Jefferson, and his life is further enriched by three
  children, Tangela, Audrey, and Jewel, as well as a grandson, Devin;
  he is an active member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church;
  and
         WHEREAS, Committed to serving others, Howard Jefferson has
  generously devoted his time for the benefit of his community, and he
  has earned the admiration and appreciation of all who know him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Howard E. Jefferson for his contributions
  to his fellow citizens and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jefferson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
