R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Howard E. Jefferson of Houston has distinguished |
|
himself through his efforts to better the city and state he calls |
|
home; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Mississippi, Mr. Jefferson holds a |
|
bachelor's degree in chemistry from Southern University in |
|
Louisiana and a master's degree in education administration from |
|
the University of Houston; he also studied for a year at The |
|
University of Texas at Austin, where he was awarded a science and |
|
mathematics fellowship; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Jefferson served nearly three decades as an |
|
assistant superintendent of the Houston Independent School |
|
District before going into business for himself as owner and chair |
|
of Protectors Insurance and Financial Services; in addition, he |
|
served as campaign manager for U.S. Congressman Al Green; and |
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to social justice, Mr. Jefferson has |
|
advocated for disenfranchised individuals and worked to increase |
|
opportunities for African American-owned businesses in Texas; he is |
|
the former president of the NAACP Houston Branch and currently |
|
serves as chair of the NAACP political action committee; moreover, |
|
Governor Rick Perry appointed him to the select committee for |
|
recommendations to Texas Southern University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Jefferson is supported in his endeavors by his |
|
wife, Zona G. Jefferson, and his life is further enriched by three |
|
children, Tangela, Audrey, and Jewel, as well as a grandson, Devin; |
|
he is an active member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Committed to serving others, Howard Jefferson has |
|
generously devoted his time for the benefit of his community, and he |
|
has earned the admiration and appreciation of all who know him; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Howard E. Jefferson for his contributions |
|
to his fellow citizens and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Jefferson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
