R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of |
|
Dr. Joseph G. Suckarieh of Midland, who died on May 3, 2009, at the |
|
age of 64; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joseph Suckarieh was born in Damascus, Syria, on |
|
July 19, 1944, to Gabriel Joseph and Claire Sarki Suckarieh; and |
|
WHEREAS, After earning his medical degree from Damascus |
|
University, Dr. Suckarieh performed his general surgery internship |
|
and residency at the University of Cincinnati; in Cincinnati, he |
|
met the former Judy Carol Wilson, and they were married in 1976; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Suckarieh did his thoracic and cardiovascular |
|
surgery residency at Wayne State University in Detroit from 1976 to |
|
1978, and from 1978 to 1989, he practiced medicine in Lubbock; he |
|
became an American citizen in 1980; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1989, Dr. Suckarieh had been a member of the |
|
surgical team at the Heart Institute of Midland Memorial Hospital, |
|
where he performed his first open-heart surgery; he played a |
|
lifesaving role for many cardiac patients in Midland, and he earned |
|
the deep respect and lasting affection of colleagues and patients |
|
alike for his skill, vitality, and compassion; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Dr. Suckarieh was |
|
active in the Catholic Church; he was a member of St. Stephen's |
|
Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and he |
|
often worked through the church to give of his time and effort to |
|
the less fortunate, both in Midland and in his native Syria; and |
|
WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, Joseph Suckarieh |
|
dedicated his life to healing, and though he was taken too soon, he |
|
leaves behind a legacy of compassion and devotion that will live |
|
forever in the hearts of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Joseph |
|
G. Suckarieh and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife of 33 years, Judy Suckarieh; to his children, |
|
Jessica Suckarieh Weinzel and her husband, John, Amy Suckarieh |
|
Gorham and her husband, Alan, Elizabeth Suckarieh and her |
|
companion, James Hamilton, Nadia Suckarieh, Gabriel Joseph |
|
Suckarieh, Emily Suckarieh, and Kiki and Topher; to his sister, |
|
Jeanette Talamas, and her husband, Nasri; to his brother, George |
|
Suckarieh, and his wife, Nancy; to his grandchildren, Sidney |
|
Weinzel, Jordan Gorham, and Willem Weinzel; and to his other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Joseph |
|
Suckarieh. |
