R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, On June 7, 2009, the members of St. Paul Missionary |
|
Baptist Church in Brookshire are celebrating the 111th anniversary |
|
of their church's establishment; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1898 by the Reverend Armstead Brandyberg, |
|
the First Colored Baptist Church of Brookshire began on a tract of |
|
land purchased for $20; it was able to expand thanks to a generous |
|
land donation from Deacon Charlie Smith, and with the construction |
|
of a church building, it was renamed St. Paul Missionary Baptist |
|
Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able |
|
leadership of many dedicated pastors, and today the tradition of |
|
service continues under the direction of the Reverend Dr. Lee |
|
Jones, Jr.; officially installed in March 1978, he has been a |
|
blessing to his congregants, and his guidance helped to make |
|
possible a new worship facility, completed in June 1999; and |
|
WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions, |
|
members support a variety of commendable programs that offer |
|
fellowship as well as help to those in need; in addition to an |
|
extensive music ministry, the church has an active youth ministry, |
|
a brotherhood and women's mission ministry, and an education |
|
committee that provides scholarships; moreover, this "Church with a |
|
Big Heart" is home to Christians Against Drugs, a nonprofit group |
|
helping to combat addiction; and |
|
WHEREAS, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church has long served |
|
as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, |
|
and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering |
|
commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 111th anniversary of St. Paul |
|
Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere |
|
best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
