R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist |
|
Braden Joseph Long of Sherman suffered an immeasurable loss with |
|
the death of this valiant young man in Iraq on August 4, 2007, at the |
|
age of 19; and |
|
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, |
|
4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, out of |
|
Fort Riley, Kansas, Specialist Long was killed while bravely |
|
serving his country during combat operations in Baghdad; and |
|
WHEREAS, Specialist Long joined the Army in 2004 and received |
|
his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky; he was deployed to Iraq |
|
in February 2007 as a gunner; his decorations and commendations |
|
included the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation |
|
Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Iraq |
|
Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Braden Long was born |
|
on August 7, 1987, in Grand Prairie, and graduated from Sherman High |
|
School in 2005; a likeable young man with an ever-present smile and |
|
a fondness for cars, he was also known for his devotion to his wife, |
|
Teresa, and for his unwavering dedication to duty and honor; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
women whose love of country leads them to military service, and the |
|
passage of time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans |
|
owe to Braden Long for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he |
|
rendered; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist |
|
Braden Joseph Long and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife, Teresa; to his parents, Melanie Thrasher and |
|
William "Bill" Long III; to his brother, William Long IV; to his |
|
sister, Michaela Thrasher; to his grandparents, William Long, Jr., |
|
William Euans, Susan Long, and Shirley Dickinson; to his |
|
great-grandfather, William G. Long, Sr.; and to his other relatives |
|
and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Braden |
|
Long. |
