R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Kirbie Day of Maypearl was named National Polled
  Hereford Queen on January 17, 2009, during the National Western
  Stock Show in Denver; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Day was one of the youngest participants in the
  National Polled Hereford Queen competition, where she impressed the
  judges with her poise, her past achievements in breeding, raising,
  and showing Herefords, and her wide diversity of interests; as
  queen, she will attend the national shows in Fort Worth, Denver,
  Reno, Keystone, Pennsylvania, Kansas City, and Louisville; her
  duties include serving as an ambassador for the breed and the State
  of Texas and presenting awards at the livestock shows; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Paul and KayLynn Day,
  Ms. Day was encouraged by her father to raise and show heifers and
  bulls; often competing against seasoned ranchers, she has a
  phenomenal record of success, earning 25 grand champions and the
  National Premier Exhibition Award for the show bull, the show
  heifer, and premier exhibitor at an event in Kansas City, Missouri;
  and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Day is also a talented student and athlete;
  currently a senior at Maypearl High School, she is a member of the
  National Honor Society, ranks in the top 10 percent of her class,
  and serves the student body as vice president; in addition, she has
  received all-district honors in softball and excelled in track and
  volleyball; and
         WHEREAS, The proud owner of 30 head of Hereford cattle, Ms.
  Day has already accumulated 36 hours of college credit and is
  involved in embryo transplant work with Dr. Brad Stoud; her
  academic goals include attending Texas A&M University, where she
  plans to major in animal science and focus on embryo research; she
  intends to minor in business and ultimately have a career as an
  animal pharmacist or embryo scientist; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Day's title of National Polled Hereford Queen
  has been hard earned, and her dedication, ambition, and many
  accomplishments foretell a bright future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Kirbie Day on earning the title of
  National Polled Hereford Queen and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Day as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
