R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 49th annual Texas Jazz Festival is taking place
  October 16 through 18, 2009, at Heritage Park in Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, Inaugurated in 1960, this popular celebration of
  jazz is one of the longest established and continuously operated
  free music festivals in the nation; through the decades, it has
  featured well-known musicians and introduced new talent, and that
  tradition continues in 2009, with an exciting mix of artists making
  their way to the Gulf Coast; and
         WHEREAS, This highly anticipated event is made possible
  through the efforts of the Texas Jazz Festival Society, an
  all-volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion,
  preservation, and appreciation of jazz music; and
         WHEREAS, In presenting the Corpus Christi festival free of
  charge to the public, the society is carrying forth its goal of
  perpetuating the live performance of jazz music; moreover, it also
  encourages and assists in the education of young jazz artists and
  works to showcase musicians from the Corpus Christi area; and
         WHEREAS, Jazz is an original American art form that has been
  an important part of the rich musical heritage of the Lone Star
  State; the annual presentation of the Texas Jazz Festival is paying
  tribute to that proud legacy, and this outstanding event and the
  people who make it happen are indeed deserving of recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 49th annual Texas Jazz Festival
  in Corpus Christi and honor the members of the Texas Jazz Festival
  Society for their admirable work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the society as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
