R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable Samuel Loyd Neal, Jr., has ably served |
|
|
the residents of Nueces County as county judge since January 2007, |
|
|
and his knowledge and dedication have earned him widespread respect |
|
|
and appreciation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judge Neal has long worked for the betterment of his |
|
|
community; elected mayor of Corpus Christi in 1997, he was |
|
|
reelected for his fourth and final term in April 2003; under his |
|
|
guidance, the city secured funding to increase crime prevention |
|
|
efforts as well as for street repairs, a multipurpose arena, |
|
|
Packery Channel, and the Bayfront Master Plan; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judge Neal has also benefited his fellow residents |
|
|
through his service as chair of the Corpus Christi Regional |
|
|
Economic Development Corporation, the Corpus Christi Chamber of |
|
|
Commerce, the Art Museum of South Texas, and the South Texas |
|
|
Homeport Committee; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Judge Neal |
|
|
earned his master of business administration from Texas A&I |
|
|
University in 1973; in addition to a notable career in the insurance |
|
|
industry that spanned more than 40 years, he has been an adjunct |
|
|
professor of insurance at Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi and |
|
|
served over three decades in the active Army and Army Reserve, |
|
|
retiring as a colonel in 1989; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, His exceptional military credentials earned Judge |
|
|
Neal appointment to the Texas Strategic Military Planning |
|
|
Commission by Governor George W. Bush and to the Texas Military |
|
|
Preparedness Commission by Governor Rick Perry; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the region he calls home, Judge |
|
|
Loyd Neal has contributed greatly to the quality of life in Nueces |
|
|
County, and his outstanding efforts are making a positive and |
|
|
lasting difference in the lives of countless people; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Samuel Loyd Neal, Jr., for |
|
|
his many years of public service and extend to him sincere best |
|
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Judge Neal as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
