R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, John Jones of Van Horn has ably served the people of
  Culberson County for more than two decades, and he has demonstrated
  a lasting commitment to improving his community; and
         WHEREAS, During his five terms as county commissioner, Mr.
  Jones worked with his fellow commissioners to offer abatements to
  bring the wind power industry to the county; the commissioners
  established a hospital district and served as an interim board of
  directors until they could hold elections for the district board;
  Mr. Jones also collaborated with other leaders in Van Horn to create
  a youth activity center, improve roads, and institute a
  mosquito-control program; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan played a significant role in the
  effort to obtain funding for courthouse renovations and helped
  sheriffs in their efforts to keep the jail in compliance, purchase
  new vehicles and radios, and expand communications capabilities;
  during the 1990s, he demonstrated invaluable leadership in guiding
  the county through financial turbulence following the closing of a
  major industrial facility; moreover, he was instrumental in
  procuring grant money for a tire disposal program that resulted in
  the removal of more than 4,000 junk tires from the Van Horn area;
  after leaving office, he generously consented to continue guiding
  the cleanup in 2009, in view of the project's vital importance to
  public health; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Mr. Jones currently
  chairs the Culberson County Appraisal Board and serves as vice
  chair of the Chihuahuan Desert Resource Conservation and
  Development Area, Inc., and as general manager of the Culberson
  County Groundwater Conservation District; in addition, he
  previously served a term as a city alderman for Van Horn; and
         WHEREAS, John Jones has made a positive difference in
  Culberson County through his numerous significant contributions to
  civic life, and he can take justifiable pride in his exemplary
  record of achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor John Jones for his noteworthy public
  service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
