R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Elliott Becker Lunson was named the Distinguished
  Artist of 2009 by the Arts Assembly of Midland at its annual
  Celebration of the Arts; and
         WHEREAS, Elliott Lunson's early artistic impulses were
  inspired and encouraged by his mother, Jane Becker, who has taught
  art at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Midland
  College, and Robert E. Lee High School; his talent, which was
  already evident during those early years, was recognized by his art
  teachers and professors as well; after graduating from Lee High
  School, he studied art at Midland College and earned a bachelor's
  degree from UTPB in 2004; he later became an art teacher at Trinity
  School of Midland; and
         WHEREAS, This promising young artist has made a name for
  himself in both the Midland-Odessa and Hudson, New York arts
  communities; though he creates ceramic pieces and sculpture, his
  favorite medium is oils, and he is known for taking on classical
  topics and presenting them in contemporary ways; two of his works,
  "Stretched" and "Jesus & Buddha," were honored with an Award of
  Merit and a Best in Show designation, respectively, at the Midland
  Arts Association-Midland College Fall 2008 Juried Art Show;
  "Stretched," a panoramic self-portrait, was included in a 2009
  emerging artist exhibition at the Limner Gallery in Hudson, and it
  was also featured on the cover of the Midland College literary
  publication Tableau and in Direct Art magazine; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Lunson draws strength from the love and support
  of his wife and fellow artist, Amanda Giddens, as well as from his
  sons, Trenton and Ryan; he also enjoys playing the piano, guitar,
  drums, and bass guitar; and
         WHEREAS, Elliot Lunson has demonstrated skill, creativity,
  and dedication in his work as an artist, and he has garnered the
  respect and admiration of countless art enthusiasts in Midland and
  beyond; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Elliott Becker Lunson on his
  receipt of the 2009 Distinguished Artist award from the Arts
  Assembly of Midland and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Lunson as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
