R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, After nearly three decades covering politics for the |
|
Houston Chronicle, Alan Bernstein is taking on a new role as |
|
director of public affairs for the Harris County Sheriff's Office |
|
at the end of May 2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Bernstein graduated from Northwestern |
|
University in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in journalism; he |
|
joined the Chronicle in 1980 and earned a reputation for integrity, |
|
thoroughness, objectivity, and attention to detail; his reporting |
|
was characterized by strict adherence to the facts and a sharp wit |
|
that kept readers engaged; and |
|
WHEREAS, In his new position, Mr. Bernstein will be |
|
responsible for maintaining the openness and transparency of the |
|
sheriff's office, which serves more than four million people; his |
|
duties will include supervision of the spokespersons who provide |
|
the media and the public with details about incidents involving the |
|
office, as well as the dissemination of information about internal |
|
and external matters to the office's deputies and civilian |
|
employees; and |
|
WHEREAS, Readers of the Houston Chronicle will miss Alan |
|
Bernstein's insight, analytical ability, and 29 years of |
|
institutional knowledge, but his skill and expertise will be of |
|
great benefit to the Harris County Sheriff's Office and the public |
|
that it serves; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize Alan Bernstein for his outstanding |
|
career at the Houston Chronicle and extend to him best wishes for |
|
success in his new role as director of public affairs for the Harris |
|
County Sheriff's Office; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Bernstein as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
