R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In just its fifth season of competition, the |
|
softball team from The University of Texas at Tyler proved itself |
|
one of the finest in the nation, earning a spot in the 2009 NCAA |
|
Division III Softball College World Series; and |
|
WHEREAS, Finishing the year with an overall record of 39 wins |
|
and 10 losses, the Patriots claimed the American Southwest |
|
Conference title and then continued their superb play in the |
|
postseason; in the West Regional tournament, UT Tyler twice bested |
|
No. 1-ranked Linfield College to become one of the eight teams to |
|
compete in the World Series tournament in Montclair, New Jersey; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, This exceptional ball club received valuable |
|
contributions from all the members of the roster and saw two of its |
|
players, sophomore Whitney Wyly and senior Roo Richardson, become |
|
the first postseason All-Americans from UT Tyler; the squad was |
|
guided by head coach Mike Reed, with valuable input from assistant |
|
coaches Keith Bell, Christy Shipley-Gipson, Colby Gipson, and Kate |
|
Lightfield; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through teamwork and determination, the Patriots |
|
softball team has furthered UT Tyler's admirable tradition of |
|
athletic excellence, and the players may reflect with tremendous |
|
pride on a memorable year; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the softball team from The |
|
University of Texas at Tyler on its outstanding 2009 season and |
|
extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
