R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The accomplished life of Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney has |
|
inspired all who are privileged to know him; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to Elbert and Louise Johnson on December 27, |
|
1927, in Pittsburg, Kansas, he was later adopted by Tom Chaney; he |
|
went on to join the United States Navy in 1945 and was the |
|
valedictorian of the Pittsburg, Kansas, High School Class of 1947; |
|
he later attended Wichita State University, and he married the |
|
former Margie Lee Hall on August 25, 1952; the couple shared the joy |
|
of welcoming three children, Mitchell, James, and Stuart, and in |
|
1956, he graduated with honors from the University of Kansas School |
|
of Medicine; and |
|
WHEREAS, After completing a family medicine internship in |
|
Tacoma, Washington, Dr. Chaney established a private practice in |
|
Belleville, Kansas, which he operated from 1957 to 1983; in |
|
addition, he volunteered his services on mission trips to Guatemala |
|
and Honduras, and he served as president of both the American |
|
Association of Family Practice and the Kansas Association of Family |
|
Practice; from 1983 through 1998, Dr. Chaney took on the role of |
|
educator, becoming an associate professor in the Department of |
|
Family and Community Medicine at the Wichita campus of the KU School |
|
of Medicine and also directing the institution's Family Practice |
|
Residency Program, and he authored numerous academic articles; and |
|
WHEREAS, On his retirement in 1998, Dr. Chaney began spending |
|
time in the Brownsville area to be closer to his treasured family, |
|
which has grown to include four grandchildren; in 2007, he became a |
|
resident of the Lone Star State, settling in Rancho Viejo, and he |
|
enjoys playing golf, reading, and following KU sports; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney has enhanced |
|
the lives of others with his dedication and generosity, and he may |
|
indeed reflect with great pride on his notable achievements and |
|
contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Dr. Ernie Joe Chaney on his outstanding |
|
career in medicine and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Chaney as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
