R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Vanessa Cardwell concluded her
  service as a member of the Fort Stockton City Council in 2009 after
  a distinguished term of service to her fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Cardwell's efforts helped bring about many
  positive developments for the city; she was particularly active in
  areas of finance, working to establish a seven-year capital
  improvement plan and a new financial team and improving the general
  fund balance; in addition, she focused on many personnel issues and
  on realizing improvements at the wastewater treatment plant, and
  she oversaw a number of vital planning initiatives, to name but a
  few of her accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, A leader in the professional world as well as in
  government, Ms. Cardwell has spent 22 years with Walmart, including
  16 years in management, and she played an instrumental role in
  helping her store win recognition as the company's 2005 Hometown
  Store of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Cardwell is prominent in a number of civic
  groups and served as president of the Fort Stockton Chamber of
  Commerce in 2006 and as a member of the board of the Fort Stockton
  Convention and Visitors Bureau in 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Devoting her time and talents to benefit her city,
  Vanessa Cardwell has proven herself a devoted public servant and an
  involved citizen, and she may take justifiable pride in her record
  of achievement during her tenure in city government; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Vanessa Cardwell for her service as a
  member of the Fort Stockton City Council and extend to her sincere
  best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Cardwell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
