R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Midland Habitat for Humanity held its inaugural |
|
Women's Build event on May 2, 2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, Organized to involve more women in Habitat projects |
|
and to provide more safe and affordable housing for low-income |
|
families, the Women's Build took place on a plot of land given to |
|
the organization through the city's Community Development Block |
|
Grant; this house is the 89th home to be built by Midland Habitat |
|
for Humanity, and will belong to local resident Tamika McAfee when |
|
it is completed; and |
|
WHEREAS, Able guidance and steady encouragement were |
|
provided throughout the project by crew chief Rita Ehler and |
|
construction coordinator Tony Valles; Mr. Valles has 35 years of |
|
experience in the construction industry and 4 years with Habitat |
|
for Humanity, which proved invaluable to the team of mostly |
|
first-time homebuilders; and |
|
WHEREAS, Decent housing promotes the health and physical |
|
safety of individuals, in addition to fostering stable |
|
neighborhoods and economic development, and it is indeed most |
|
fitting to recognize Midland Habitat for Humanity and the Women's |
|
Build participants for their selfless contributions in behalf of |
|
the community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the inaugural Midland Habitat for |
|
Humanity Women's Build and extend to everyone involved in this |
|
worthy event sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Midland Habitat for Humanity as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
