R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A prominent member of the Sunnyside community in
  Houston, Dr. Edith Clark has built an impressive record of service
  that has been of great benefit to her fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Waller County, Dr. Clark attended Tulane
  University in New Orleans and earned advanced degrees in
  cosmetology; she was the owner and operator of Clark's House of
  Glamour until her retirement and is a former president of the
  Sunnyside Beauticians Club; moreover, she has served in several
  leadership positions with Theta Nu Sigma National Sorority; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Clark's civic leadership has taken many forms;
  she organized the first Juneteenth celebration at Mt. Vernon
  Baptist Church in 1978, and she was instrumental in the
  reorganization of the Sunnyside Civic Club; in addition, she served
  as the first honorary mayor of Sunnyside, was a member of the board
  for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, and has been a very active
  congregant of Evangelist Chapel African Methodist Episcopal
  Church, where she has held various administrative offices; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has received numerous honors for
  her professional and community service work throughout her life,
  including the Outstanding Cosmetology Award, the Excellence Award
  from Greater True Light Church of God in Christ, the Unsung Heroes
  Award from State Representative Alma Allen, and the Pillar of
  Community Award from Sunnyside Place Community Development
  Corporation; and
         WHEREAS, Edith Clark has devoted herself to strengthening her
  community, and she may take justifiable pride in the many positive
  changes that have resulted from her work; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Dr. Edith Clark for her many years of
  public service in the city of Houston and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Clark as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
