R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Judy A. Hill of Aledo High School is the recipient of
  the 2009 Marva Collins Teaching Excellence Award presented by the
  Reilly Family Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, Born in a small town in West Texas in 1953, the
  former Judy Ann Wilburn was an avid reader in her youth; she
  graduated with honors from Abilene High School in 1971 and went on
  to work for the U.S. Social Security Administration; after a decade
  there, she realized that something was missing in her life, and she
  decided to pursue her longtime dream of a career as a teacher; she
  quit her job, returned to school, and in 1987 graduated from Texas
  Christian University with a bachelor's degree summa cum laude in
  education; she taught in the Azle and Birdville school districts,
  and after earning her master's degree in English from the
  University of North Texas in 1996, served as an academic
  coordinator at a high school in Fort Worth and as an instructor at
  Tarrant County College; and
         WHEREAS, Since 2006, Ms. Hill has taught advanced placement
  English at Aledo High School, and she is the chair of the English
  department; in addition, she has instituted SAT and PSAT
  preparatory courses and mentored new teachers at the school, and
  she is planning to serve on the Aledo ISD Strategic Planning
  Committee; Ms. Hill has further contributed to such organizations
  as the United Educators Association of Texas and the National
  Council of Teachers of English; and
         WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, she benefits from the love
  and support of her husband, Jack Hill, and the couple take great
  pride in their daughter, Christi Hill-Kothmann; Ms. Hill also
  enjoys playing piano and writing, and she maintains her lifelong
  enthusiasm for reading; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has demonstrated the passion,
  determination, and commitment that are the hallmarks of our best
  teachers, and she is indeed an exemplary role model for her
  colleagues and students alike; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Judy A. Hill on her receipt of the
  2009 Marva Collins Teaching Excellence Award and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Hill as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
