R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by |
|
his family and friends at the loss of U.S. Marine Corps Staff |
|
Sergeant Archie A. Taylor of Tomball, who died in Afghanistan on |
|
March 14, 2009, at the age of 37; and |
|
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Intelligence Battalion, 2nd |
|
Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, 2nd Marine |
|
Expeditionary Force, out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sergeant |
|
Taylor died while serving his country in Kabul; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Montgomery County on November 5, 1971, |
|
Archie Taylor was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. armed forces; he |
|
enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989 and served until 1995, and he |
|
continued his service with the Army National Guard until 1997; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2001, Sergeant Taylor joined the U.S. Marine |
|
Corps and served as a counterintelligence specialist; after two |
|
tours of duty in Iraq, he was deployed to Afghanistan in January |
|
2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, During his long and distinguished military career, |
|
Sergeant Taylor earned many decorations and commendations, |
|
including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Marine |
|
Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Army |
|
Achievement, Commendation, and Good Conduct Medals, the Iraq |
|
Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, to name but |
|
a few; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military |
|
service, but the tragic death of this brave and dedicated marine is |
|
a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Taylor devoted more |
|
than half of his life to defending his nation, and those who knew |
|
and loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant Archie |
|
A. Taylor and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Archie |
|
Taylor. |
