R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced
  by a great and enduring love, Roger and Mary Ruth Walters of
  Longview celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 11,
  2009; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walters were united in matrimony on
  that special day in 1959; through the years, they have nurtured a
  fulfilling marriage that has been made even richer with the
  addition of three children, Chris Walters and his wife, Linda, Amy
  Lardie and her husband, Kevin, and Pene Smith and her husband,
  Jackie, and five cherished grandchildren, Erik, Scott, Brendan,
  Brooke, and Jace; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Walters answered his nation's call to duty with
  many years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a
  lieutenant colonel in 1977; he went on to work in the oil and gas
  industry and later became director of the Gregg County Airport
  before retiring in 2001; Mrs. Walters is a homemaker; and
         WHEREAS, While innumerable changes have taken place in the
  world during the past half-century, this devoted husband and wife
  have remained constant in their commitment to one another, and the
  strength of their love has enabled them to meet life's challenges
  and opportunities with grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Roger and Mary Ruth Walters on
  their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best
  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Walters as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
