R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges and
  Universities has been selected as the 2009 Outstanding Institution
  for Commitment to Excellence and Innovation in Distance Education
  by the Texas Distance Learning Association; and
         WHEREAS, Known as NETnet, the Northeast Texas Consortium of
  Colleges and Universities provides curriculum and technology
  support to 15 public colleges and universities in the region,
  including The University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior
  College; the consortium is hosted by The University of Texas Health
  Science Center at Tyler and is under the leadership of Mickey Slimp;
  and
         WHEREAS, Guided by a mission to increase access to
  educational programs for the people of Northeast Texas, NETnet
  assists more than 20,000 student enrollments a semester through
  Internet and interactive video teaching; among its current
  responsibilities are providing the primary connectivity for the
  nursing and other academic programs at the UT Tyler Palestine
  Campus, coordinating video connectivity for Tyler Junior College
  and its dual credit offerings to area high schools, and enabling
  collaboration between UTHSC at Tyler and Stephen F. Austin State
  University; and
         WHEREAS, NETnet greatly enhances higher education
  opportunities for area residents, and in so doing, it is helping
  numerous Texans build a brighter future for themselves; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges
  and Universities on its selection as the 2009 Outstanding
  Institution for Commitment to Excellence and Innovation in Distance
  Education and extend to all those involved with the organization
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for NETnet as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
