R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, After more than three decades of distinguished |
|
service to the Laredo Independent School District, Maria del Carmen |
|
S. Sandoval retired as director for instructional technology in |
|
June 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, Maria Sandoval graduated from The University of |
|
Texas with honors in 1974, having earned a bachelor's degree in |
|
elementary education and a Texas Educator Certificate; she resumed |
|
her studies at UT the following year and obtained a master's degree |
|
in vocational rehabilitation counseling; she went on to receive |
|
additional certifications in special education supervision, |
|
distance learning, and virtual instruction; and |
|
WHEREAS, After joining Laredo ISD in 1974, Ms. Sandoval |
|
worked in special education for nearly two decades and held the |
|
positions of resource teacher, vocational adjustment coordinator, |
|
and supervisor; in 1991, she became a technology coordinator, and |
|
for the next 16 years, she helped modernize many of the district's |
|
operations as a member of the technology committee; in addition to |
|
introducing automated library software, she assisted the |
|
leadership team in establishing expectations for both students' and |
|
educators' technology proficiencies, purchasing communication |
|
software, developing online grade books and lesson planners, and |
|
initiating a laptop program for teachers; she also wrote technology |
|
grants and created online training and professional development |
|
courses; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Sandoval was active in the Texas Computer |
|
Education Association and the Laredo Administrative and |
|
Supervisors' Association, and she was honored with a Madrina Award |
|
from the Dell TechKnow Group at Laredo ISD; moreover, her expertise |
|
in the field of technology was recognized when she was appointed to |
|
the superintendent's cabinet and the Region I Education Service |
|
Center Technology Advisory Committee; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan demonstrated a commitment to |
|
excellence in all of her professional endeavors, and her hard work |
|
and dedication significantly benefited area schoolchildren as well |
|
as the greater community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Maria del Carmen S. Sandoval for her |
|
notable contributions to the students of Laredo and the Laredo |
|
Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Sandoval as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
