R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The valiant Americans who fought for this country
  during the crucial years of World War II are deserving of the
  highest respect; and
         WHEREAS, Felix Rodriguez, Sr., of Elsa was among those who
  endured the grim dangers of war to preserve this nation's freedom at
  that critical juncture; and
         WHEREAS, Born in McAllen in 1926, Mr. Rodriguez enlisted in
  the U.S. Army in September 1944, and as a rifleman with Troop E, 8th
  Cavalry Regiment, he served with distinction in the Pacific
  Theater; after helping to liberate the Philippines, he witnessed
  the Japanese surrender ceremony aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo
  Bay; and
         WHEREAS, Private Rodriguez earned a number of military honors
  for his intrepid service, including the Good Conduct Medal, the
  Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Ribbon with two Bronze Stars,
  the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the
  Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, the Philippine Liberation
  Medal and Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, two Overseas Service Bars,
  and the Combat Infantryman Badge; and
         WHEREAS, After his discharge from the military in 1946, Mr.
  Rodriguez began a career as a truck driver that spanned more than
  half a century; through the years, he has been a loving husband to
  his wife of six decades, Esperanza Madrigal Rodriguez, and a caring
  father to his many children; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez has also taken an active role in his
  community, helping to found the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.
  7473 in Elsa; and
         WHEREAS, Each year on Veteran's Day we reflect on the
  contributions made by the members of America's armed forces, and in
  that spirit, the members of this chamber recognize the tremendous
  valor of Private Felix Rodriguez and his noble actions in behalf of
  his country and its citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Felix Rodriguez, Sr., for his courageous
  service as a member of the United States Army during World War II
  and extend to him sincere appreciation for his steadfast
  patriotism; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
