| WHEREAS, Earl Milton Morin, Jr., of Houston died on May 20, | ||
| 2009, at the age of 67, leaving behind many friends and admirers | ||
| with treasured memories of time spent in his company; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born in Houston on December 27, 1941, to Earl Milton | ||
| Morin, Sr., and LaNelle Sheffield Morin, Milton Morin enjoyed the | ||
| companionship of two sisters, Nell and Carol; he graduated in 1960 | ||
| from St. Thomas High School and went on to earn undergraduate | ||
| degrees in history from the University of St. Thomas and in | ||
| journalism from the University of Houston; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Morin continued his family's legacy in the | ||
| newspaper business as the third-generation owner and publisher of | ||
| Houston's Daily Court Review from 1970 to 2004 and as publisher | ||
| emeritus from 2004 to 2009; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A dedicated journalist and an avid believer in | ||
| transparency in government, he was actively involved in municipal | ||
| affairs in his hometown and a frequent visitor to the State Capitol | ||
| to meet with elected officials; his professional affiliations | ||
| included the Texas Press Association, the Texas Gulf Coast Press | ||
| Association, the Texas Daily Newspaper Association, the National | ||
| Newspaper Association, and American Court and Commercial | ||
| Newspapers, Inc.; he was also a member of the TDNA/TPA legislative | ||
| advisory committee; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Morin wrote not only news stories but also | ||
| poetry and prose, and he had recently completed a comprehensive | ||
| genealogy on the Morin family; his strong religious faith led him to | ||
| serve as an elder in several congregations and lead services at area | ||
| retirement communities; a voracious reader who favored the Bible | ||
| and history books, he also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and | ||
| playing golf in his retirement; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A kind and generous man who readily offered | ||
| assistance to anyone in need, Milton Morin will forever be | ||
| remembered for his warm and outgoing nature, his delightful sense | ||
| of humor, and his passionate engagement in the world around him; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Earl Milton Morin, | ||
| Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to | ||
| his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth Morin; to his children, Thomas | ||
| Milton Morin and his wife, Julie, and Sarah Morin Geyer and her | ||
| husband, Mark; to his granddaughter, Maya Kathryn Morin; to his | ||
| sister and her husband, Nell Jeanne Morin Gudger and the Reverend | ||
| Gordon Gudger; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Earl Morin. | ||
