R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The YWCA El Paso del Norte Region is commemorating |
|
its centennial in 2009, and this notable milestone provides an |
|
opportune time to recognize Kathleen Peyton, who has greatly |
|
contributed to its success in the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Peyton began volunteering with the YWCA in the |
|
1970s; in 1985, as associate executive director of programs, she |
|
worked to create much-needed after-school child care for latchkey |
|
children; established on school campuses, these programs provided |
|
area youth with recreation, homework time, and refreshments; and |
|
WHEREAS, The initiative thrived under Ms. Peyton's guidance, |
|
and soon other recreational classes were organized for summer |
|
vacation; a registered nurse, Ms. Peyton met with local regulatory |
|
agencies and played a vital role in setting safety guidelines; her |
|
efforts were instrumental in giving working mothers and fathers the |
|
comfort of knowing that their children were engaged in healthy, |
|
productive activities; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was also involved in the early |
|
development of the Transitional Living Center, a program to assist |
|
homeless women and children; offering classes in parenting skills, |
|
time management, budgeting, and job training, the center has |
|
benefited countless individuals through the years; and |
|
WHEREAS, With her commitment to empowering those in need, |
|
Kathleen Peyton has had a positive impact on both the YWCA and the |
|
wider community it serves, and she may indeed reflect with great |
|
pride on her notable achievements and on the life-enhancing |
|
opportunities she has helped to create for so many fellow citizens; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Kathleen Peyton for her exemplary service |
|
to the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region and extend to her sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Peyton as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
