R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Michael
  W. Davis suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this
  valiant soldier on May 21, 2007, at the age of 22; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 425th Brigade Special Troops
  Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, based
  at Fort Richardson, Alaska, Corporal Davis lost his life while
  bravely serving his country in Iraq; and
         WHEREAS, Michael Davis graduated from San Marcos High School
  and went on to attend Texas State University; moved to join the army
  after the events of September 11, 2001, he trained to become a
  combat engineer at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where his dedicated
  service earned him the Commanding General's Award for Military
  Excellence; and
         WHEREAS, After earning his status as an Airborne Sapper at
  Fort Benning, Georgia, he transferred to Alaska and was honored
  with the Army Achievement Medal for his outstanding efforts during
  predeployment training; highly decorated throughout his career, he
  also earned the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat
  Action Badge, and the Army Good Conduct Medal; and
         WHEREAS, Corporal Davis was known for his light-up-a-room
  smile and for his devotion to his wife, Taryn, whom he married in
  December 2005; and
         WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
  servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous
  sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect
  and gratitude; through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor,
  Michael Davis embodied the highest ideals of the United States
  armed forces, and memories of his love and friendship will forever
  be cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
  Michael W. Davis and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his wife, Taryn Davis; to his mother, Sonya Davis
  Kennedy; to his father, Myron Davis; to his sisters, Natalie Davis
  and Jessica Bell; and to his other relatives and many friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Michael W.
  Davis.
