R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Guadalupe Canales has ably served the
  people of Jim Hogg County as county judge since 2007, and his
  knowledge and dedication have earned him the respect of many people
  along the way; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Canales earned his bachelor's degree from
  Texas A&M University--Kingsville in 1960 and went on to receive his
  master's degree in 1970; a dedicated educator, he worked with the
  Jim Hogg County Independent School District for many years, and his
  success as a science teacher contributed to the accomplishments of
  his students, who won numerous UIL awards and were invited to attend
  the inauguration of President George H. W. Bush; also a successful
  entrepreneur, he owned a grocery store in Hebbronville for more
  than two decades; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Canales first entered politics in 1972,
  representing Precinct One on the Jim Hogg County Commissioners
  Court for nearly a decade; during his notable tenure, he played a
  vital role in the establishment of a street paving program, the
  creation of a housing authority and airport in Hebbronville, and
  the expansion of the courthouse; he has also donated his own money
  to pave the City Plaza; and
         WHEREAS, Beginning his tenure as county judge in 2007, he has
  worked with students in the A&M--Kingsville architectural
  engineering program to bring local buildings up to code with the
  Americans with Disabilities Act; in addition, he has helped to
  bring a Family Center to Hebbronville and to establish a county
  nutrition program for the elderly; and
         WHEREAS, Guadalupe Canales has made many significant
  contributions to the betterment of life in Jim Hogg County over the
  course of his tenure as a public servant, and he may take
  justifiable pride in his exemplary record of achievement; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Judge Guadalupe Canales for his committed
  public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Judge Canales as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
