R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The girls' track team from Tuloso Midway High School
  in Corpus Christi finished second in the team competition at the
  31-4A district track meet, held April 16 and 17, 2009, in Alice; and
         WHEREAS, The Cherokees were paced by three athletes who
  claimed individual titles at the meet; Tori Najvar became the
  district champion in the pole vault, Lauren Schwirtlich took the
  crown in the 100-meter hurdles, and Ruby Tellez won the 3,200-meter
  run; moreover, seven other athletes placed third or better in their
  events to qualify for the regional track meet; and
         WHEREAS, In earning its second-place finish, the Tuloso
  Midway squad received valuable contributions from all of its
  members; in addition to Ms. Najvar, Ms. Schwirtlich, and Ms.
  Tellez, the team includes Staci Alanis, Kasey Alphin, Lesley
  Cluiss, Kirsten Ericksen, Laura Flynn, Victoria Galaviz, Desarae
  Hinojosa, Meagan Hoff, Meagan Muniz, Kirsten Schwirtlich, Ashley
  Tracey, Ashley Valdez, and Christina Vaughn; and
         WHEREAS, Head coach Esequiel Hernandez guided these talented
  competitors, with additional input from assistant coaches Eddie
  Castillo and Claudia Wells; and
         WHEREAS, Worthy representatives of their school and
  community, the Cherokees performed admirably against their
  district rivals, and they may take justifiable pride in their
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Tuloso Midway High School
  girls' track team on its second-place finish at the 31-4A district
  track meet and extend to the athletes and coaches sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
