R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The girls' track team from Tuloso Midway High School |
|
in Corpus Christi finished second in the team competition at the |
|
31-4A district track meet, held April 16 and 17, 2009, in Alice; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Cherokees were paced by three athletes who |
|
claimed individual titles at the meet; Tori Najvar became the |
|
district champion in the pole vault, Lauren Schwirtlich took the |
|
crown in the 100-meter hurdles, and Ruby Tellez won the 3,200-meter |
|
run; moreover, seven other athletes placed third or better in their |
|
events to qualify for the regional track meet; and |
|
WHEREAS, In earning its second-place finish, the Tuloso |
|
Midway squad received valuable contributions from all of its |
|
members; in addition to Ms. Najvar, Ms. Schwirtlich, and Ms. |
|
Tellez, the team includes Staci Alanis, Kasey Alphin, Lesley |
|
Cluiss, Kirsten Ericksen, Laura Flynn, Victoria Galaviz, Desarae |
|
Hinojosa, Meagan Hoff, Meagan Muniz, Kirsten Schwirtlich, Ashley |
|
Tracey, Ashley Valdez, and Christina Vaughn; and |
|
WHEREAS, Head coach Esequiel Hernandez guided these talented |
|
competitors, with additional input from assistant coaches Eddie |
|
Castillo and Claudia Wells; and |
|
WHEREAS, Worthy representatives of their school and |
|
community, the Cherokees performed admirably against their |
|
district rivals, and they may take justifiable pride in their |
|
achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Tuloso Midway High School |
|
girls' track team on its second-place finish at the 31-4A district |
|
track meet and extend to the athletes and coaches sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
