R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The members of Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority,
  Inc., have distinguished themselves through their community
  involvement, academic achievements, and cultural outreach; and
         WHEREAS, This noteworthy organization was founded on October
  7, 1997, by five Texas A&M University students who sought to promote
  cultural awareness and enhance diversity on campus and throughout
  the surrounding region; since that time, Delta Xi Nu has welcomed
  women of all backgrounds and committed itself to sisterhood,
  culture, and education, and it has focused its philanthropic
  endeavors on the prevention of violence against women; and
         WHEREAS, The Delta chapter at The University of Texas-Pan
  American was chartered on April 16, 2005, and has grown to nearly 40
  members; active on campus, the group often works with the
  University Program Board to coordinate cultural showcases, and it
  regularly participates in celebrations, like those commemorating
  Dia de los Muertos or Diez y Seis de Septiembre; the Delta chapter
  was also involved in the UTPA Alumni Association fajita cook-off,
  and its signature event is Dining with Culture; and
         WHEREAS, Engaged in the community, the members of the Delta
  chapter regularly volunteer their time to such organizations as
  Keep McAllen Beautiful, through which they helped paint houses for
  low-income families, and the Pharr Community Outreach Project, and
  they have also sponsored a self-defense seminar to raise awareness
  about domestic violence; moreover, the group earned distinction as
  the Greek organization with the highest cumulative GPA, and it
  received the Dean's Award for the 2007-2008 school year; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of its development, Delta Xi Nu has
  remained dedicated to fostering compassion, understanding, and
  diversity, and in so doing, it has made a positive difference in the
  UTPA community and beyond; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Delta chapter of Delta Xi Nu
  Multicultural Sorority, Inc., for its efforts in behalf of The
  University of Texas-Pan American and the greater community and
  extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Delta Xi Nu as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
