| WHEREAS, Individuals of all ages are afflicted by rare, | ||
| chronic, and life-threatening genetic conditions, and they rely | ||
| upon vital plasma protein therapies; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Such disorders include hemophilia, Kawasaki | ||
| disease, hepatitis, pediatric HIV, von Willebrand disease, and | ||
| other immune system deficiencies, all of which are treated most | ||
| effectively with the therapies produced from plasma and with the | ||
| use of recombinant technology; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Patients who have access to the full range of plasma | ||
| protein therapies, to the appropriate providers, and to various | ||
| options in pharmacy and home-supported services often experience | ||
| the best possible clinical outcomes, and thus, a comprehensive | ||
| system of care is essential; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Plasma protein therapies help to ensure a higher | ||
| quality of life for many patients across the United States, and | ||
| greater awareness and understanding of this issue contributes to | ||
| the health and well-being of our communities; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby recognize August 2009 as Plasma Protein | ||
| Therapies Month in the Lone Star State and encourage all Texans to | ||
| learn more about the conditions that are treated by plasma protein | ||
| therapies and to explore the resources that are available to them. | ||
