R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Individuals of all ages are afflicted by rare, |
|
chronic, and life-threatening genetic conditions, and they rely |
|
upon vital plasma protein therapies; and |
|
WHEREAS, Such disorders include hemophilia, Kawasaki |
|
disease, hepatitis, pediatric HIV, von Willebrand disease, and |
|
other immune system deficiencies, all of which are treated most |
|
effectively with the therapies produced from plasma and with the |
|
use of recombinant technology; and |
|
WHEREAS, Patients who have access to the full range of plasma |
|
protein therapies, to the appropriate providers, and to various |
|
options in pharmacy and home-supported services often experience |
|
the best possible clinical outcomes, and thus, a comprehensive |
|
system of care is essential; and |
|
WHEREAS, Plasma protein therapies help to ensure a higher |
|
quality of life for many patients across the United States, and |
|
greater awareness and understanding of this issue contributes to |
|
the health and well-being of our communities; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize August 2009 as Plasma Protein |
|
Therapies Month in the Lone Star State and encourage all Texans to |
|
learn more about the conditions that are treated by plasma protein |
|
therapies and to explore the resources that are available to them. |
