R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The talented cast and crew of the Hico High School
  One-Act Play have advanced to the 2009 University Interscholastic
  League Theatre/One-Act Play State Meet; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1927, the UIL's One-Act Play contest is
  the largest high school play production competition in the world;
  every year, more than 14,000 high school students in over 1,000
  plays participate in 300 contests across the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, Competing in UIL division 2A, the creative and
  energetic young people from Hico High School successfully performed
  a drama, The Diviners, at the regional UIL competition at Tarleton
  State University in Stephenville on April 24, 2009, earning the
  right to compete in the state finals at Hogg Auditorium on the
  campus of The University of Texas at Austin on May 27; this is the
  first time the group has advanced to state in nearly 30 years; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to the victory of the cast and crew
  overall, actors Mitchell Gilpin and George Golightly were named to
  the regional all-star cast, and Cory Needham received honorable
  mention; Josh Johnson was named to the regional all-star crew; and
         WHEREAS, The victorious cast and crew also includes Eric
  Heinrichs, Michael Pennington, Alyssa Matthews, Emily Pope, Kevon
  Mitchell, Sarah Lane, Lauren Bales, Taylor Cooper, Sierra Sklar,
  Cassi Stegall, Morgan Oxley, Samantha Ballard, and Kelsan
  Wolverton; the group's theater coach is Gary Brister; and
         WHEREAS, The continuing richness and diversity of Texas
  culture depends in large part upon the enthusiasm and commitment of
  gifted young people, and the members of the Hico High School One-Act
  Play have earned great distinction for themselves, their school,
  and their community with their excellence in the dramatic arts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Hico High School One-Act Play
  cast, crew, and coach for advancing to the UIL state finals and
  extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
