R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to |
|
|
honor Edelmira Sotelo for her outstanding contributions as district |
|
|
director for the Del Rio office of State Representative Pete |
|
|
Gallego; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1989, "Miri" Sotelo became the representative's |
|
|
first staff member, and her remarkable tenure has been |
|
|
characterized by exemplary skill and dedication; moreover, she has |
|
|
demonstrated a deep commitment to the citizens of Del Rio; in 2006, |
|
|
she organized the city's first community-wide holiday toy drive, |
|
|
Ninos Navidenos, to ensure that every child received a gift; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Sotelo has given generously of her time and |
|
|
talent to numerous civic organizations and has worked tirelessly in |
|
|
behalf of children and battered women; a member of the board for the |
|
|
Quad County Drug Abuse Council, she also serves on the board of the |
|
|
Safe Kids Program, instructing parents in the proper installation |
|
|
of car seats for their children and advocating the use of bicycle |
|
|
helmets for the safety of young Texans; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Del Rio on December 11, 1935, Mrs. Sotelo |
|
|
graduated from Del Rio High School and married Claudio Sotelo on |
|
|
December 18, 1955; they are the parents of three children, Claudio |
|
|
Jr., Debra Melinda, and the late Fernando; devoted grandparents and |
|
|
great-grandparents as well, Mr. and Mrs. Sotelo celebrated their |
|
|
golden wedding anniversary on December 18, 2005; the couple are |
|
|
valued members of St. Joseph Catholic Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For two decades, Miri Sotelo has served with great |
|
|
distinction as a member of Representative Gallego's staff, and her |
|
|
selfless efforts in behalf of others have made a positive |
|
|
difference in her community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Edelmira Sotelo for her service in the |
|
|
office of State Representative Pete Gallego and to the Del Rio |
|
|
community and extend to her warmest best wishes; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mrs. Sotelo as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
