R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, U.S. Highway 83, which stretches from the state's
  southernmost tip in Brownsville to the Oklahoma state line, was
  designated the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway in 1983; and
         WHEREAS, This enduring tribute to those who proudly served
  the nation in the Vietnam War was the result of the hard work and
  commitment of a number of dedicated individuals, including State
  Representative Ernestine Glossbrenner of Alice, Senator Carlos
  Truan of Corpus Christi, and, at the grass-roots level, Melecio
  Ortiz of American Legion Post 396 in Crystal City; and
         WHEREAS, Each year the sacrifices and service of these
  veterans is further acknowledged when the highway serves as the
  site of the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway Motorcycle Run;
  and
         WHEREAS, Also known as the Welcome Home Run, the event was
  established in 2003 to honor Texas Vietnam War veterans and to give
  them the appropriate welcome home they deserved on their return
  many years ago; the four-day event has grown through the years, and
  more than 80 motorcyclists participated in 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Brave and steadfast during one of the most difficult
  wars in this nation's history, Vietnam veterans are worthy of
  Americans' deepest respect and gratitude, and the annual Welcome
  Home Run offers participants an opportunity to demonstrate their
  continuing appreciation and admiration; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial
  Highway Motorcycle Run and extend to all those associated with the
  event sincere best wishes for continued success.
