A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the selection of hosting locations for certain |
|
|
University Interscholastic League extracurricular competitions. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 33.0831 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 33.0831. SELECTION OF LOCATIONS FOR CERTAIN |
|
|
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY COMPETITIONS. (a) This section applies |
|
|
to extracurricular athletic, academic, or musical activities |
|
|
sponsored or sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League. |
|
|
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (d), the University |
|
|
Interscholastic League may not select a location to host a regional |
|
|
or statewide competition for an extracurricular activity if the |
|
|
location served as host for the same competition during the |
|
|
preceding year. |
|
|
(c) The University Interscholastic League may not select a |
|
|
location to host a regional or statewide competition for an |
|
|
extracurricular activity unless the infrastructure and capacity of |
|
|
the location's facilities are sufficient to serve the needs of the |
|
|
competition. |
|
|
(d) Subsection (b) does not prohibit the University |
|
|
Interscholastic League from selecting a location that served as |
|
|
host during the preceding year if an alternative location is not |
|
|
available. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 33.0831, Education Code, as added by |
|
|
this Act, applies beginning with the 2010-2011 school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
