A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the duties of the Texas Department of Insurance. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 31.002, Insurance Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 31.002. DUTIES OF DEPARTMENT. In addition to the |
|
|
other duties required of the Texas Department of Insurance, the |
|
|
department shall: |
|
|
(1) regulate the business of insurance in this state; |
|
|
(2) administer the workers' compensation system of |
|
|
this state as provided by Title 5, Labor Code; [and] |
|
|
(3) ensure that this code and other laws regarding |
|
|
insurance and insurance companies are executed; and |
|
|
(4) promote fair and equitable practices and deter |
|
|
deceptive practices in the insurance market. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
