A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a fee on certain lottery prizes to fund the TEXAS grant |
|
|
program. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 466, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 466.4055 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 466.4055. PRIZE FEE. (a) The director shall collect |
|
|
from a person who is paid a prize of $600 or more a fee in the amount |
|
|
of five percent of the amount of the prize. |
|
|
(b) Fees collected under this section shall be deposited to |
|
|
the credit of the general revenue fund and may be appropriated only |
|
|
to fund the TEXAS grant program administered under Subchapter M, |
|
|
Chapter 56, Education Code. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 466.4055, Government Code, as added by |
|
|
this Act, applies only to a lottery prize paid by the director of |
|
|
the lottery division of the Texas Lottery Commission on or after the |
|
|
effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
