A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a project that may be undertaken by a development |
|
|
corporation to promote higher education opportunities in this |
|
|
state. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 501, Local Government |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 501.1055 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 501.1055. PROJECTS RELATED TO PROMOTING HIGHER |
|
|
EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. In this subtitle, "project" includes |
|
|
expenditures to provide scholarships to students who enroll in |
|
|
institutions of higher education in order to attract and retain top |
|
|
high school graduates and maintain a highly trained and dynamic |
|
|
state and local workforce. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
