A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to setting aside for TEXAS grant funding tuition paid by |
students at campuses maintained by public institutions of higher |
education outside the United States. |
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
SECTION 1. Section 56.310, Education Code, is amended by |
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
(d) The governing board of an institution of higher |
education that maintains a campus outside the United States shall |
cause to be set aside five percent of the amount of the tuition |
charged to a student enrolled at the campus for the purposes of this |
subchapter. The amount of a student's tuition set aside under this |
subsection is in addition to an amount that may otherwise be |
required by law to be set aside from that tuition to provide funds |
for student financial aid. |
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies |
beginning with tuition charged by a public institution of higher |
education for the 2009-2010 academic year. Tuition charged by a |
public institution of higher education for an academic year before |
that academic year is covered by the law in effect before the |
effective date of this Act, and the former law is continued in |
effect for that purpose. |
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
