A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the terms of the members of the Court Reporters
  Certification Board.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 52.011(f), Government Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (f)  Board members serve staggered six-year terms of office,
  with the terms of two or three members expiring on December 31 of
  each year.
         SECTION 2.  (a) To comply with Section 52.011(f),
  Government Code, as amended by this Act, the Texas Supreme Court, as
  soon as possible after the effective date of this Act, shall
  prescribe a method for determining the dates on which the terms of
  the members of the Court Reporters Certification Board serving, and
  of the offices that are vacant, on the effective date of this Act
  expire. By using the method prescribed by the Texas Supreme Court:
               (1)  a combination of two members serving, or offices
  vacant, on the effective date of this Act must be selected for a
  term expiration date of December 31, 2010;
               (2)  a combination of two members serving, or offices
  vacant, on the effective date of this Act must be selected for a
  term expiration date of December 31, 2011;
               (3)  a combination of two members serving, or offices
  vacant, on the effective date of this Act must be selected for a
  term expiration date of December 31, 2012;
               (4)  a combination of two members serving, or offices
  vacant, on the effective date of this Act must be selected for a
  term expiration date of December 31, 2013;
               (5)  a combination of two members serving, or offices
  vacant, on the effective date of this Act must be selected for a
  term expiration date of December 31, 2014; and
               (6)  a combination of three members serving, or offices
  vacant, on the effective date of this Act must be selected for a
  term expiration date of December 31, 2015.
         (b)  The method prescribed by the Texas Supreme Court as
  required by Subsection (a) of this section may be a drawing of lots.
         (c)  For purposes of Section 52.011(g), Government Code, the
  term being served by a member of the Court Reporters Certification
  Board on the effective date of this Act that expires in accordance
  with Subsection (a) of this section is considered a single term.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
