A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the adoption of rules by the supreme court relating to |
|
|
the nonrenewal of the license of an attorney who defaults on a |
|
|
student loan administered by the Texas Higher Education |
|
|
Coordinating Board. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 82.022(c), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) The supreme court may adopt rules relating to the |
|
|
nonrenewal of the license of a lawyer who is in default on: |
|
|
(1) a loan guaranteed under Chapter 57, Education |
|
|
Code, by the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation; or |
|
|
(2) a loan administered under Chapter 52, Education |
|
|
Code, by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
