S.C.R. No. 17
 
 
 
 
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes great
  pride in recognizing First Baptist Church of Blanco on the occasion
  of its 150th anniversary on November 6, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Blanco can trace its roots
  to a congregation organized in May of 1859 by the Silliman family
  from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the church was formally constituted
  on Sunday, November 6, 1859, under the direction of Reverend Bird,
  with five members in attendance; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, First Baptist Church has ministered
  faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of countless people;
  from the early days when it shared a building with other churches
  until today, the church has continued to grow and to play a vital
  role in the life of the Blanco community; and
         WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Blanco has become an
  invaluable source of strength for its members during times of
  hardship and bereavement and a source of joy during times of
  celebration and prosperity; and
         WHEREAS, The commemoration of its 150th anniversary is an
  expression of the church's enduring commitment to its mission of
  providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby extend best wishes to the congregation of First Baptist
  Church in Blanco on the joyous occasion of its 150th anniversary;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
  church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
