SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes great |
|
|
pride in recognizing First Baptist Church of Blanco on the occasion |
|
|
of its 150th anniversary on November 6, 2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Blanco can trace its roots |
|
|
to a congregation organized in May of 1859 by the Silliman family |
|
|
from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the church was formally constituted |
|
|
on Sunday, November 6, 1859, under the direction of Reverend Bird, |
|
|
with five members in attendance; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, First Baptist Church has ministered |
|
|
faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of countless people; |
|
|
from the early days when it shared a building with other churches |
|
|
until today, the church has continued to grow and to play a vital |
|
|
role in the life of the Blanco community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Blanco has become an |
|
|
invaluable source of strength for its members during times of |
|
|
hardship and bereavement and a source of joy during times of |
|
|
celebration and prosperity; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The commemoration of its 150th anniversary is an |
|
|
expression of the church's enduring commitment to its mission of |
|
|
providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby extend best wishes to the congregation of First Baptist |
|
|
Church in Blanco on the joyous occasion of its 150th anniversary; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the |
|
|
church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature. |
