SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
welcome the members of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty |
|
Owners Association to Austin and to join them in celebrating |
|
February 26, 2009, as TIPRO Day at the State Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, Beginning early in the 20th century, the great oil |
|
fields of Texas were discovered in rapid succession; from |
|
Spindletop to Burkburnett to Santa Rita to the Permian Basin, these |
|
vast reserves provided great wealth to our state; and |
|
WHEREAS, Conflicts between independent producers and the |
|
major oil companies began to arise, and independent producers began |
|
to organize to protect their interests; in 1933, the Independent |
|
Petroleum Association was born in East Texas, and it soon grew to |
|
encompass producers from across the state; it was reconstituted in |
|
1946 as the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners |
|
Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Independent oil producers create many jobs which |
|
benefit our state, and oil and natural gas production generated $4 |
|
billion in revenue through the severance tax in 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, Independent producers develop 90 percent of all |
|
American wells, and Texas' independent producers operate half of |
|
all active land rigs in the United States; their self-reliant |
|
attitude has produced a century of prosperity for our state, and |
|
they are truly deserving of recognition for their many |
|
achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby commend the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners |
|
Association on its many contributions to our state and extend to its |
|
members best wishes for a memorable TIPRO Day at the State Capitol; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for this |
|
outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas |
|
Legislature. |
