SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize former Judge Arturo E. Guerra, Jr., for his outstanding
  service on the bench and his many contributions to the justice
  system in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, A 1968 graduate of Saint Mary's University Law
  School, Mr. Guerra began his career as a judge when he was elected
  to serve as Hidalgo County Court at Law Judge in 1976; and
         WHEREAS, In 1980 he was appointed by Governor Bill Clements
  as judge of the newly created 275th District Court, where he
  presided until 1986; and
         WHEREAS, An active member of the Hidalgo County Bar
  Association, Arturo Guerra is also a prominent rancher and
  entrepreneur who has served on various boards throughout the
  region, including Easter Seals and the Hidalgo County Appraisal
  District; and
         WHEREAS, In honor of this outstanding jurist, his portrait is
  being hung in the 275th District Court in which he served, and a
  special ceremony marking the occasion is being held in the
  courtroom on February 12, 2009; he is truly deserving of
  recognition for his service to the citizens of the Rio Grande
  Valley; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commend Arturo E. Guerra, Jr., on his exemplary service to
  the cause of justice in our state and extend to him best wishes for
  continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him
  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
