SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Harvey Carroll "Dulie" Bell, Jr., who died
  October 10, 2008, at the age of 91; and
         WHEREAS, Harvey Carroll Bell, Jr., was born June 27, 1917, in
  Caldwell; he earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University
  and served the nation during World War II as an infantry officer,
  taking part in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bell retired from the United States Army with
  the rank of major, having earned the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart,
  the Medal of Jubilee for Liberty from France, and other decorations
  for his service and his valor; and
         WHEREAS, Following the war, Mr. Bell cofounded Central Texas
  Equipment Company, a construction equipment enterprise, and he
  served as the company's president for more than 50 years; and
         WHEREAS, Active in civic affairs, Mr. Bell served on the
  board of Austin National Bank and as president of the Salvation
  Army, the Austin Chamber of Commerce, and the Headliner's Club; he
  also played an important role in the construction of Mopac Highway
  as cochair for Citizens for Mopac Highway; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his alma mater, he served as a regent of
  The Texas A&M University System for 12 years and as chair of the
  planning and building committee, and he also served as president of
  the Capital City A&M Club; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bell was an avid outdoorsman, and he shared
  countless enjoyable hours with his friends in the pursuit of wild
  game and exotic fish; he completed a Grand Slam in North American
  sheep in 1973; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave
  generously to others, and his wisdom, his warmth, and his
  forthright honesty will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
  and his family and friends will long treasure the cherished
  memories of his life and his many accomplishments; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Harvey
  Carroll Bell, Jr.: his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and John
  Sharkey; and his granddaughter and her husband, Sara and Mark
  Walker; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for his
  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Legislature, and that when the Texas Senate and House of
  Representatives adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Harvey
  Carroll Bell, Jr.
