SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the students, faculty, staff, and board of The Victoria College in celebrating the first annual VC Pirates Day, which is being celebrated on January 26, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1925, The Victoria College is a multipurpose open-access community college serving Victoria and the surrounding counties; and

WHEREAS, The mission of this exemplary institution is to create and provide high-quality educational programs and services which fulfill the community's needs for intellectual growth, workforce training, and cultural and personal enrichment; and

WHEREAS, VC Pirates Day will include many activities to mark this special occasion, including an alumni reunion, a screening of the award-winning documentary At the Death House Door, and a men's basketball game pitting The Victoria College Pirates against Coastal Bend College; and

WHEREAS, VC Pirates Day will also feature the ribbon cutting for the new Health Sciences Center and tours of the facility; this state-of-the-art structure embodies the college's commitment to quality and innovation; The Victoria College is truly deserving of recognition on this special day for its dedication to preparing its students to face the challenges of the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the students, faculty, staff, and board of The Victoria College on their many accomplishments and declare January 26, 2009, to be VC Pirates Day in Texas; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the college as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
