SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Walter R. Pond, superintendent of the Rockdale
  Independent School District, who is retiring after 38 years of
  outstanding service with the district; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Pond began
  his career with the Rockdale Independent School District as a
  student teacher in 1971; he began teaching high school the same
  year and has held a number of other positions, including
  assistant principal, principal, and director of personnel,
  maintenance, and transportation; he has served as the district's
  superintendent for the last 20 years; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Pond has been noted for
  his superior skills and expertise as an educator and
  administrator; under his leadership, the district anticipated
  the need for technology in schools and secured grants to acquire
  this fundamental element of today's educational process; and
         WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Pond has handled
  his many responsibilities with exceptional efficiency and
  dedication; he played a major role in the recent passage of the
  $28.8 million bond package, which is adding new schools and
  providing much-needed renovation to others; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary educator, Mr. Pond is respected and
  admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the Rockdale
  Independent School District will be greatly missed; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Walter R. Pond on his exceptional
  service to the Rockdale Independent School District and extend to
  him best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
